Question:
I would like to connect to the internet using ADSL.
What is required and what are the initial and monthly costs?
Answer:
To obtain ADSL, your telephone line needs to be upgraded to an ADSL line. This is done by Telkom at a fee of R404-00 once-off, and is subject to your line conforming to certain ADSL requirements.
Unfortunately, this process is handled solely by Telkom, and the average lead time is one month. However, MegaWeb Internet Services will be glad to liaise with Telkom on your behalf, to try and ensure a quicker and smoother upgrade.
In additional you will need an ADSL Router, which is available from MegaWeb. Please contact us for pricing.
Once your line has been upgraded, you will be charged a monthly fee by Telkom for the ADSL facility rental. This fee is dependant on your chosen line speed, with a pricing structure as follows:
- 192 / 64k - R270-00 (available to residential customers only)
- 384 / 128 - R359-00 (available to residential customers only)
- 512 / 256k - R477-00
- 1024 / 256k - R680-00
This fee is over and above the line rental you are currently paying.Should you choose MegaWeb as your Internet Service Provider, your monthly internet access fee will range from R215-00, depending on your specific package. On capped accounts, a once-off setup fee of R175-00 is also applicable, whereas this is R1,710-00 on an uncapped account.
Please note, MegaWeb is not responsible, nor has any influence over Telkom pricing. All Telkom pricing is correct as per Telkom at present. All prices mentioned are inclusive of VAT (E&OE).
